ATLANTA, July 24th, 2008 - Andrew G. Ury, M.D., a founding member of the HIMSS EHR Vendor Association (EHRVA), has been elected to serve on the Executive Committee as 2008 Vice Chair effective July 1, 2008. A past vice chair for the Association, Dr. Ury will help lead the group’s mission to provide a collective voice to help accelerate the widespread adoption of interoperable electronic health records (EHR). The association, comprised of more than 40 member companies, is a partner of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) and operates as an organizational unit within HIMSS.
“It is an honor to be selected to serve as vice chair in light of all the potential changes in national policy that may occur in the coming year, and the need to continue to drive electronic medical record adoption in the U.S., help accelerate standards adoption and interoperability, and help improve the quality of care” said Dr. Ury.
Dr. Ury’s experience encompasses the clinical, technological, regulatory, and business aspects of healthcare information technology. Dr. Ury, founder of Practice Partner which is now part of McKesson Corporation, is currently chief medical officer for Physician Practice Solutions (PPS), a division of McKesson Provider Technologies. He is also a Commissioner on the Certification Commission for Healthcare information Technology (CCHIT).
HIMSS EHRVA is a trade association of Electronic Health Record (EHR) vendors that join together to lead the health information technology industry in the accelerated adoption of interoperable EHRs in hospital and ambulatory care settings in the US. Representing a substantial portion of the installed EHR systems in the US, the association provides a forum for the vendor community to speak with a unified voice relative to standards development, the EHR certification process, interoperability, performance and quality measures, and other EHR issues.
